FAQs

Texture Format and Quality
Q: What types of textures does Third Map offer?
A: Third Map specializes in high-resolution natural stone textures for 3D rendering, architectural visualization, movies and game design. Our textures are optimized for PBR workflows, ensuring photorealistic results in any rendering engine.
Q: Are the textures tileable?
A: No, the textures in Thirdmap are not seamless. They are sourced from real natural stones, ensuring each one is one-of-a-kind
Q: What is the format of the textures?
A: All textures are in 8-bit JPG format.
Q: What resolutions are available for your textures?
A: Our textures are available in 8K, 16K, and 32K resolution, ensuring extreme detail and realism for high-quality renders. If you require even higher resolutions, please contact us via the Contact Us page, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
Q: Can I download the images in other formats?
A: Standard downloads are in 8-bit JPG format. However, we can provide custom formats with 16-bit or 24-bit color depth in various resolutions upon request. Please note that there is an additional charge for this service.
Q: What is the real-world size of the textures?
A: Our textures vary in size, with an average of approximately 3000x2000 mm. The exact dimensions of each texture are specified in its description.
Purchase and Delivery
Q: Do you offer free sample textures?
A: Yes! We offer a free 8K texture sample so you can test the quality before purchasing. Check our Free Downloads section.
Q: How long does it take to receive the textures after purchase?
A: Once your order is placed and payment is confirmed, you will immediately receive an email with a download link. Please check your spam folder if you don't see the email in your inbox.
Q: I haven't received a confirmation email after paying with PayPal.
A: Please verify that your account information is correct and that your billing information is up-to-date. Try completing the payment again. If the issue persists, we suggest trying a different payment method.
Q: Do you provide normal maps?
A: The natural stones used to create our textures at Thirdmap are polished and do not naturally exhibit holes or reliefs. Therefore, we do not provide normal maps.
Q: What are “ready-to-use” files?
A: Ready-to-use files are configurations
prepared exclusively for the V-Ray render engine. At this time, they are not available for other render engines.
For best results and full compatibility, V-Ray version 6 or higher is strongly recommended.
These files do not include the base
texture, which must be downloaded separately from the
corresponding product page (additional cost applies).
Each file is individually calibrated for a
specific texture, accurately reproducing the polished or honed finish of that particular natural stone.
They should not be used with any other texture, as doing so may result in inaccurate or unrealistic visual outcomes.
It is also essential to UV map your 3D
object according to the dimensions provided on the product page. This ensures correct scale, orientation, and realism in your
final render.
Q: What’s the difference between
Polished and Honed
finishes in natural stone textures?
A: At Third Map, our textures are
crafted to accurately replicate real stone surfaces, and understanding the difference between Polished and Honed
finishes is key to creating realistic and compelling 3D renders.
A Polished finish is smooth, highly reflective, and glossy. It enhances the stone’s color depth and veining, offering a luxurious, high-end aesthetic—ideal for visualizing countertops, splashbacks, or statement surfaces. However, because of its strong specular reflections, a polished texture
requires careful lighting control in 3D scenes to avoid unrealistic glare or overly harsh highlights.
On the other hand, a Honed finish, while often described as “matte,” is actually a finely polished surface that lacks the glossy sheen. It still reflects light, but in a softer, more diffused way. This gives the stone a more natural, understated appearance that integrates beautifully into modern, minimal, or organic-style visualizations. Honed textures are also more forgiving under varied lighting setups and tend to feel more grounded and subtle in tone.
When choosing between the two, consider not only the aesthetic style you’re aiming for but also the lighting conditions in your scene—Polished finishes are striking but demanding, while Honed surfaces offer elegance with greater flexibility.
